Eleninha has been named the best bar in the city by the 2025 Rio Show Gastronomy Awards. Among the highlights are the Argentine chardonnay Rocamadre Blanco – Juan Suárez 2024 (R$53 per glass or R$264 per bottle), and wines from the distant Imereti region of Georgia, such as the orange wine made from the tsitska grape (R$298 per bottle). There are over 30 options by the glass each month, starting at R$22 for 150ml — one of Belisco's unique features is its generous offering of wines by the glass, a still uncommon practice in the city. BLUE BLAZER Master of reinventing the high cocktail experience, Lelo Forti (formerly of Mixxing) recently brought his Blue Blazer from Barra to Botafogo — operating as a mixology school by day and a sophisticated speakeasy by night. The décor is meticulously designed to evoke the charm of old French bars: dim lighting, leather sofas, books scattered throughout the library, and an impressive wooden counter where you can watch the drinks being made. The menu, crafted by Lelo himself, references places, people, and experiences from nearly 30 years dedicated to mixology. Popular choices include the day after tomorrow (R$40), with gin, cashew and vanilla infusion, sour mix, and Angostura; catch me if you can (R$40), with vodka, hibiscus and ginger infusion with salted caramel; and before the end of the world (R$40), with bourbon infused for 48 hours with coffee and cinnamon, coffee liqueur, and dry red vermouth. Prohibition-era classics also make an appearance, such as the Manhattan (R$42) and Bloody Mary (R$42). Popular starters include the salt cod salad (R$51.50) and the seafood chowder (R$44.50), as well as the unique lobster croquette (R$16.50). For sharing, the generous and flavorful seafood skillet (R$264.50) and the octopus (R$238.50) and salt cod rice dishes (R$248.50) are hits, along with grilled cuts from the neighboring Galeto Rainha, such as the galeto (R$131.50) and premium picanha (R$297.50). Nearby on Rua Jo?o Lira, Boteco Princesa expands on its older sibling's repertoire with classic Rio nightlife dishes. BREWTECO The craft beer chain was born from a "pé-sujo" in Leblon in 2013 and quickly spread across the city: today, there are seven locations, from Lapa — where the brewery offers tours with tastings for R$50 — to a kiosk on Morro da Urca, ascending the Bondinho. All maintain the same spirit, but each has its unique identity, whether in the menu, music, or events throughout the year. In addition to taps with various labels, the brand has three proprietary drafts: the pilsenzinha (R$17), the pé sujo, in APA style (R$20), and the tra?ado, an IPA (R$24). In terms of food, highlights include the buraco quente, a sandwich on French bread filled with shredded beef rib, creamy mozzarella requeij?o (R$42). The "coxinhas saradas," without dough, are breaded in panko and served with curry aioli (R$38 for four units). Don't miss the bifanas (R$54), thin sirloin steaks marinated for 24 hours with half-cured cheese sauce and sweet potato chips. The vem de carne boa (R$47) features cupim cubes over fried cornmeal and cherry tomatoes, while the mineirinho (R$47) is roasted pork belly with toasted watercress vinaigrette. DEJA VU A new addition to the area around Pra?a do Russel, which is becoming a hotspot in Glória, the latest venture by Jonas Aisengart (Quartinho, Chanchada, Guadalupe, among others) is a modern wine bar with neon on the facade, an intimate setting with music and soft orange lighting in the small main room and basement, and sidewalk tables. The labels, many of minimal intervention, are served in a casual manner, whether in bottles starting at R$98 — like the Uruguayan orange Alma Surfer (R$178) — or glasses from the T?o Longe, T?o Perto project (R$15). Don't miss the French cider Kerné (R$98), a rare find here. In the kitchen, Chef and partner Matheus Zanchini (also of Pope) prepares inventive bites to accompany, like cured duck breast with spices (R$42) and pink tarama, a bottarga emulsion with pink beet cream and mujol roe (R$56). DEMI BOTECO Half French, half Brazilian, as the name suggests, the new venture by Frenchmen Stéphane Quinquis (formerly of Miam Miam) and Thierry Duc is a true French bar, with a simple, concise menu and inviting prices. To start, try the Cochon Rouge's country paté, served with sourdough bread, pickled cucumber, and mustard (R$29); the delicious fish fingers, very carioca, breaded in panko (R$27); and the eggplant sticks seasoned with paprika, served with sweet and sour miso sauce (R$23). For larger appetites, try the chicken fricassee (R$44), a kind of French stroganoff with thigh, Paris mushrooms, rice, and homemade potato sticks; or the couscous with ratatouille, merguez, thigh, and house harissa sauce (R$55). As expected, the house offers wines, by the bottle or in smaller versions, 300 ml pichets (R$33). There's also Conversa Fiada pilsner draft (R$8) and cacha?a-based drinks (R$23), such as the du bois, with blackberry, lemon, and cassis. FATCHIA Inspired by Japanese audiophile spaces but with a tropical, laid-back soul, Fatchia opened last year with the aim of bringing together well-played music, signature drinks, and great pizza in one place. Conceived by Rodrigo Facchinetti — DJ, record collector, and music connoisseur — the venture is another partnership with the duo behind several Rio bars: mixologist Jonas Aisengart, who crafted some of the signature drinks, and entrepreneur Edu Araújo. The menu's star is the Detroit-style pizza — individual, with a light crust, tall edges, and creative touches — available in non-traditional flavors like pepperoni with spicy honey or carbonara (R$36 each). To drink, espresso martini (R$36), with a special touch of vanilla vodka, or gloria groove old fashioned, featuring whiskey infused with cocoa, coffee, and cherry, clarified using the milk punch technique (R$34). Evenings feature guest DJs who respect the sound ritual, maintaining a listening and celebratory atmosphere. GLORIOSO SUSHI Another venture from the duo Edu Araújo and Jonas Aisengart, the Japanese pub opened in January in bustling Botafogo offers an innovative mix under the command of Chef Guinju Tanaka, from the iconic Tanaka family: classic Japanese techniques with a casual Carioca bar vibe. A good example from the menu is the takoyaki (ball) filled with shrimp and Catupiry (R$38); the cigarrete roll, with pork shoulder and provolone rolled and breaded in panko, finished with tonkatsu, pineapple compote, and chives (R$32); or the cupim sashimi, with thin slices of the meat sautéed with moyashi (R$42). To drink, Jonas created highballs and signature cocktails like the totoro, with whiskey infused with pineapple and lemongrass plus citrus soda (R$34); or the liberdade, liberdade, with soju infused with melon and pennyroyal, finished with sparkling water (R$28). The small and charming house in Leblon launched a new cocktail menu this year, featuring ingredients from around the world and a special selection of Brazilian products. Each drink represents a letter of the alphabet and an ingredient inspiring its creation, from A to Z. In this first edition, nine cocktails were presented in the form of tales. Highlights include the elderflower (R$45), a mix of elderflower liqueur, cacha?a, white rum, Aperol, pineapple, passion fruit, lemon, yuzu, fennel, green tea, and orange bitters, clarified with lactose-free milk and carbonated. Pair it with the burrata (R$69), with confit tomatoes, arugula, and parmesan crisp. Another house favorite is the cupua?u (R$42), made with rum, tequila, cupua?u, pineapple, lime, and cumaru. In addition to an executive lunch on weekdays, the fixed menu offers options for snacks, lunch, or dinner. Starters include steak tartare (R$54) and roasted pupunha heart of palm with basil pesto and nuts (R$34), vegan and aromatic. There are also fresh pasta dishes, such as pappardelle with bourguignon (R$64), served with beef cooked in wine sauce with vegetables and mushrooms; and ravioli du dauphiné (R$62), filled with artisanal cheeses and served with a creamy sage and white wine sauce. On the cocktail menu, two new creations take the spotlight: the melone (R$32), a milk punch with rum, melon, homemade limoncello, and passion fruit; and the neto (R$30), made with jabuticaba vermouth, homemade orange liqueur, blackberry syrup, and cacha?a aged in balsam. The wine selection deserves a chapter of its own, featuring over 30 natural, organic, and biodynamic labels — all exclusively Brazilian.
